Summer is just about here! It's time to think SUP, but remember your SUP needs to be loved to help it maintain it's best condition. Here are a couple of simple summer care tips:
rinse your board off every now and then with fresh water. This will remove the salty crust that will build up on your board and help prolong the life of your deck grip.
Give your paddle a good spray down with fresh water as well. This will remove the salty crust and keep it looking like new!
wash your board bag out a couple of times over the season with fresh water and then dry it in a shady spot. This will remove all the dried salty crust from your bag and zip. Crusty salty zips don't last long!
Try to limit the time you leave your board and carbon paddle in direct sunlight on very hot days. If there is some shade use it, your board will thank you.
If your board is in the sun on a hot day remove it from it's bag. Board bags can be like ovens on hot sunny days and can cause problems for your board. A 30 degree day might be 45-50 degrees or more in the bag laying in the sun!
Store your gear in a cool, dry, safe place if possible. A garage or verandah is perfect!
If using ratchet straps when fastening your board to the roof of a car, be very careful not to over tighten the straps. Ratchet straps can be cranked extremely tight which may damage the boards rails.
If you follow these simple tips you will have your board for many years and your board will give you plenty of love in return!
